About us
Scotland's Gardens Scheme was first registered as a charity in 1931. For more on
our history please click here.
The Scheme is run by a salaried Director and PA based in Edinburgh.
Scotland is split into 27 districts, each consisting of a
District Organiser supported by Area Organisers and a Treasurer. There are approximately
200 people involved and all are volunteers. Their job is principally to liaise with
the garden owners, ensure that the garden openings proceed successfully, organise
local marketing and find new gardens to open for the Scheme.
The Director is supported by a Treasurer who oversees the financial management
of the scheme.
The Executive Committee and Finance Committee, headed by the Chairman and Deputy
Chairman, consist of a selection of people drawn from gardening fields and the professions.
These Committees oversee the strategy and overall well being of the charity and
provide support to the Director.
"Gardens of Scotland" the annual handbook (more info here)
listing the full details of all the gardens opening for the Scheme is available
from the 1st of February each year.
